Thanks to the early exploitation of the Y2K business opportunity, Satyam grew faster than many of its peers. This directly led to the growth in people numbers, that too across geographies. The mandate to my department was to make sure that Satyamites across the world felt one with the organization.

We did a similar arrangement for a client in Dallas, where we played “Yellow Rose of Texas” as he walked in. Our hit rate with client acquisition went up after that.I am not saying it was because of corporate communications alone, but because the client felt that we were a company that would walk that extra mile for them.

I found the geography a little odd at times. Today’s deal of the day at Groupon is for a business clear across town. If you’ve ever driven in Miami, you know that it might as well be in another country.

Bullet the Points. Break up paragraphs with short, bulleted points highlighting the features and benefits. Readers will absorb this material better than paragraphs.

Why are advertising agencies flooding us with so many TV commercials about food, especially about McDonald’s or Burger king? The simple fact is they want you to get fat so you will go out and spend more money on diet pills. This way you can get skinny and then start all over by going back to the fast food joints to get fat again. It is a catch-22 scenario. It is a vicious cycle.

But global visibility also happens through unexpected quarters. Mid 1999, the head of our subsidiary, Satyam Infoway requested me to handle the PR for their ADS listing on Nasdaq. This gave me a major opportunity to work at a global level and also to deal with the big guns in the financial sector-Merrill Lynch, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and KPMG and, of course, the top management at NASDAQ.

They have ancient technology in place at their locations, that i made an effort to see first hand, but as i said they have the components in place, they just need the direction to get it done. Maybe a change in management will give the company a different view and they can finally make headway both in earnings and in the stock price as the stock has been stuck in the high to low range for a year. So the moment you hear that Rite Aid is upgrading their systems and giving the company a better public image then you should be all in. I would be open to having Ms. Mary Sammons on “Wall Street to Main Street” in the future as i am sure that being the CEO of the company she can give us a really good view of Rite Aids direction.
